Although India is a rich tourism destination, many international families choose to avoid it in favour of other Asian countries. This is unfortunate because India can be a wonderful environment for the entire family if expectations are reasonable and minds are open. India is a good next destination if you've previously travelled to other developing countries, either with children or without. Preconceptions are one of the main obstacles that prospective visitors to India confront. Sorting fact from fiction or half-truths is a crucial component of arranging a trip to India because it appears that prejudices and misconceptions about India are more prevalent than those about other tourist destinations. If you know where to look, the contrary of every broad cliché about India (it's hot, crowded, polluted, and stressful) is also true. With the size and diversity of India, a family vacation there may essentially be anything you want it to be.
Given its size, we concentrate your family vacation in India on the top attractions, including the nation's major cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Kerala, and Goa, as well as the regions around them. You can have experiences that represent the colourful contrasts of India in one or the other region. Study the maharajas' past, hunt for tigers in Ranthambore National Park, or participate in one of the nation's most thrilling festivals. Family travel in India is enjoyable and thrilling, and it is made simple by your guide, the top-notch accommodations you stay in, and the gracious locals you encounter.
The first thing to keep in mind is just how big India is. In addition to being big, it contains a vast range of altitudes, habitats, and temperatures. This implies that different parts of India will likely have very diverse weather patterns during the course of the year. Make sure to factor this into your travel planning. If you want to experience one of the biggest and most well-known celebrations in the world, Holi, spring is in fact the best season to travel to India. Holi, sometimes referred to as the festival of colour, marks the end of winter. Typically covering the months of February and March, spring is one of the best seasons to explore India.
Although we do not highly recommend travelling to India during summers, due to its tropical climate, staying out for long times in the sun can cause trouble. But this is the ideal time to explore the lovely hill stations where the weather is mostly pleasant and at some places you can even see snow. Summer is the time when tourist business is fairly low and the hotels offer very cheap prices. Winter is the most popular season to visit India. From the long coastline to even snow clad hill stations, every place is throbbing with tourist footfalls.
Any attempt to "do" India in one trip will leave you worn out, and it isn't a suitable strategy for family travel anywhere, let alone India. Focus on one particular experience type while taking your family's interests into account. Here are some family-friendly suggestions:
- Spend the night in Rajasthan's deserts under the stars. Children and adults both like this western state's deserts, palaces, and forts.
- On a houseboat, explore the backwaters of Kerala. In a relaxing houseboat fashioned from a traditional rice barge, go through Kerala's palm-lined waterways. For many tourists, the freshly made Keralite meal by your personal chef is the highlight. Several people also opt to stay the night on a houseboat.
- Unwind on Goa's beaches. South Goa's beaches are suitable for families because there are enough hotels, resorts, and restaurants for convenience without being overdeveloped, despite the reputation of this small state's party areas.
- A trip on a luxury train. Take a luxury train for a trip that combines lodging, travel, and sightseeing into one epic excursion lasting up to a week. Although they are expensive, these provide an amazing experience.
These activities are just a few of the many activities that can be done or planned in a fashion of your interest. For customised tours or more details on activities please reach out to us.
We advise you to pack lightly and moderately whether you plan to move across the country periodically or stay put. There won't be room for "just in case" stuff, and you won't have the stamina to haul around unnecessary weight. The following is a list of necessities to bring when visiting India with children:
- Medication: This one tops our list because kids can react to the changing climate pretty soon. Apart from general first aid and kid’s specific allergy/concern meds, leave all others behind.
- Light but modest clothes: For their personal comfort and to show respect for culture, women and teenage girls should dress modestly. Above-the-knee shorts and tank tops are inappropriate attire and adult males should wear preferably long pants in India outside of beach resorts, thus men too should be mindful of modesty. It is advised to wear loose-fitting clothing that covers the knees, shoulders, and, for ladies, the cleavage. In India, loose cotton clothing is often more practical because it shields you from the sun and dust.
- Comfortable footwear: You must be ready to spend the most of your days walking on rough sidewalks, roadways, and dirt roads if you visit India. It's crucial to spend money on sturdy walking shoes that won't break down in the rain yet are light enough to wear in the sun. It's a smart idea to bring along a pair of sturdy sandals to wear on warm days or at the beach. As a symbol of respect, temples frequently demand that guests enter barefoot, so make sure your shoes are simple to take off and put on.
- Baby/Kid Essentials: The streets aren't the best for pushing a stroller around in India's most famous tourist destinations because they are frequently highly congested. An excellent approach to go around is to bring a baby carrier with you and alternate carrying it between the two parents during the day. Comfortable clothes, nappies, hat and a water bottle for the baby goes without a mention. We recommend you to keep layers of the baby/kid ready for the changing temperature during the day if visiting the high altitudes and desert. We advise you to get baby food in cans or jars from the grocery store. Take it with you throughout the day to ensure that you are always ready for a snack.

India is just as safe to travel to as any other foreign country. Indians are friendly and supportive people. Also, we will be there to look out for you at every turn and to teach you how to take some simple safety precautions. Locking up your extra cash, traveller's checks, passports, and priceless jewellery in the hotel safe is a smart idea. Also, because everything shuts down early at night, be cautious when out on your own with family, especially in isolated locations or tiny towns (we recommend big cities for your first visit). Avoid travelling at night if at all possible, and never leave your bags unattended at the train or airport. Be cautious with the kids, don’t let any stranger offer them something to consume or hug/touch them.
In India, there are two different types of toilets: Asian squat toilets and western sit-down toilets. The most prevalent toilets in public restrooms are squat toilets. We advise you to carry your own tissues and hand sanitizer because some public restrooms won't have soap or toilet paper.
Everyone must enter India with a valid Indian visa, with the exception of citizens of Nepal. Make sure any information you have is up to date because the procedures and laws governing obtaining an Indian visa frequently change. You can currently apply for an electronic visa online.
