Hemis Festival is one of the most important monastic festival of Ladakh which held in the month around of June to pay tribute to the founder of Tantric Buddhism in Tibet, Guru Padmasambhava. Hemis Gompa is where the monks perform a unique dance known as Mask Dance.

Itinerary

Day 1

Delhi

Once you arrive at Delhi International airport, meet our representative who helps you with an assisted transfer to your pre-booked hotel. Rest day at leisure, explore the popular monuments, and visit the renowned markets where you can buy the authentic Indian goods. Overnight stay in Delhi.

Day 2

Delhi - Leh (By flight)

Visit Leh Palace, Hall of Fame & Shanti Stupa Today take early morning transfer to the airport to board a flight for Leh. On arrival at Leh, get transferred to your pre-booked hotel. Check-in to hotel and relax for a while as this beautiful place located on the very high altitude, hence if you arrived Leh by air from plans then you need some time to acclimatizing to the lower oxygen level at these heights before attempting anything strenuous. Post lunch proceed for sightseeing. Visit Leh Palace- the former residence of the royalty of Leh, Hall of Fame- a museum built and maintained by the Indian Army and Shanti Stupa – a white domed Buddhist stupa not only popular for religious importance but also for an amazing view of the surroundings that it offers. Rest day is free at leisure just roam around the market and buy some authentic items of Ladakh. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 3

Leh

Enjoy Hemis Festival and Excursion to Monasteries After breakfast, proceed to visit the Hemis Monastery to enjoy the festivities. Hemis Monastery is a Tibetan monastery, which is the biggest monastery in Ladakh. It is located at the distance of approximately 45 kilometers from Ladakh. The existence of this monastery was before 11th century but it was rebuilt 1672. In the honor of Lord Padmasambhava, every year this monastery host the cultural and traditional festival, the most famous attraction of the festival is its mystic mask dances being performed by the Lamas, along with musical drums and long horns. You can also buy some souvenirs from stalls. Later, visit the Shey Gompa – housing a huge statue of seated Buddha, this monastery is located within the Shey Palace and later the Thiksey Gompa- a Tibetan Buddhist monastery belonging to the (Gelugpa) sect, it has an architecture similar to Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 4

Leh - Pangong Lake - Leh (About 320 kilometers)

Excursion to Pangong Lake Today post breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake, also known as Pangong Tso. Pangong Tso is located at the height of 4350 meters approximately from the sea level which extends from India to Tibet. It is about 150 kilometres from Leh. About 60% length of the lake are situated in Tibet. En route, visit Durnuk and Tangtse villages. In afternoon arrival at the Pangong Lake. Set your camps here. Take a panoramic view of surroundings which are extremely soothing, watch the colorful birds and visit the local village and closely know about the local culture of Leh region. Back to hotel in Leh at late evening. Overnight stay at Leh.

Day 5

Excursion to Khardung la top (5359 meters)

Explore Khardung La After breakfast, drive towards Khardung la, it is kwon as the world’s highest motor able pass located at an altitude of 5602 meters above sea level. This pass is situated 40 kilometers from Leh and it was established in 1976 and opened for motor vehicles in 1988. It is also a strategic point for Indian military, as it servers a link to Siachen glacier. The foreign tourists need special permit to visit this place. In the evening return back to leh, visit the market and by some local handicraft items. Stay overnight in Leh.

Day 6

Leh- Delhi (By flight)

In morning after breakfast, proceed to Leh Airport to board your connecting flight for the onward journey with Sweet and Happy Memories.
