About:
Dhamek Stupa was built in 249 BC during Asoka’s reign in Sarnath near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and is one of the most famous Buddhist Stupa. This huge and important Stupa is made up of red bricks and stone and has gone through renovations for several times. This is the place where Lord Buddha gave his first preaching to his five disciples after attaining enlightenment in Bodh Gaya making it a more sacred and important Buddhist pilgrimage centre. Buddhist pilgrims from around the world visit Sarnath to circumambulate the holy Stupa and worship Lord Buddha. National and international tourists also gather at Sarnath to get a glimpse of Buddhist architecture and culture at this significant centre of Buddhism.
